be healthy with us

Health is more than preventing or curing physical sickness.
From our perspective health is about wellbeing. It encompasses much more than our bodies and is intrinsically linked to all we do. Together we can all be a part of building healthier whānau and community where we live, love, learn, work and play.

our hospital

Te Puia Hospital is the only Māori owned and operated hospital in the world. We are different because we don’t have a ‘whānau room’, we are a whānau hospital. We are on a journey to become an eco-friendly hospital, because our health is connected to the health of our environment. “Tena koe/ korua/ koutou. He mihi aroha tenei kia koutou e kaha nei ki te whai ake i te hauora mo tatou katoa. Kei roto i te pukapuka nei nga whakamaramatanga mo tenei mate.Tirohia pataingai kia marama ai koe/korua/koutou mo tenei ahuatanga. No reira kia kaha kia manawanui.”

our destination

TE PAE KAHURANGI

We want to transform our rohe into one of the world’s 'Blue' zones.

What's a 'Blue' zone?
There are only a handful of them in the world. They are very small areas where people live longer and live 'happier' than anywhere else on the planet. That's our destination and we have a name for it: Te Pae Kahurangi. Core ingredients identified in other blue zones include: putting family ahead of other concerns, less smoking, semi-vegetarianism, constant physical activity, social engagement of people of all ages and regular religious or cultural practices.

Visiting

We are a whānau friendly hospital, and encourage whānau and friends to visit and be involved in the care of residents and patients.

We do not have set visiting hours, however, hospital doors are locked at 9pm. If you would like to visit after this time you can ring the doorbell to discuss with night staff.

Our whānau cottage Te Rau Aroha is available for day use and overnight stays. It is intended for people living outside the Te Puia Springs area. Please ask us if your family/whānau require this facility.

If you would like to post something to a patient the address is:
(Patient's Name), Ngāti Porou Hauora PO Box 2, McKenzie Street, Te Puia Springs 4048

Smokefree

Ngāti Porou Hauora is a totally smokefree environment and workplace. This means no one may smoke anywhere in Ngāti Porou Hauora buildings, grounds, carparks or properties.
